Her door was always open. Ours is too.

Jackie's Story:

Jackie (Jacqueline) Grant lived in Bartram Village in Southwest Philadelphia. She kept her door open to anyone who was hungry, needed shelter, or whose children needed someone when the world let them down. She never ran a program. She never applied for a grant. People simply knew - if you needed something and you had nowhere else to go, Jackie's door was open.

She never called it a mission. It was just who she was.

Jackie's House is named for her. It is the infrastructure build around what she already understood - that when people are received with dignity, they rise to meet it

THE FOUNDERS STORY

LaRica Grant is Jackie's daughter.

She spent thirty years working inside every institution this program is designed to bridge - child welfare, mental health, rehabilitation, workforce development, and the criminal justice system at every level. She has watched firsthand what happens when people come home to nothing. And she has spent those same thirty years building the alternative in her heart.

Jackie's House is that alternative - made real.

LaRica is the Founder and Executive Director of Jackie's House and the Founder and CEO of So Life Gave You Lemons, LLC. She lives at 1600 W. Diamond where she operates the Sisterhood - a private home for women veterans - as a certified nonmedical assisted living administrator, live-in caregiver, cook, and direct care worker.

WHY NOW

In 1990, Philadelphia closed Byberry State Hospital and discharged thousands of patients into a city that was not prepared to receive them. Homelessness surged, Emergency rooms were overwhelmed. People were found dead within days of discharge.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court's March 2026 ruling in Commonwealth v. Lee is Philadelphia's Byberry moment. Over 1100 people - most of them elderly, most of them Black, most from this city - are coming home after decades of incarceration. Whether Philadelphia is ready or not.

Jackie's House is building the infrastructure to receive them. Not after the crisis is underway. Before the door opens.

Philadelphia Reentry Infrastructure

A home. Not a program.

A family. Not a placement.

The Sisterhood is LaRica Grant's private home.

At 1600 W. Diamond Street in Philadelphia, LaRica - a certified nonmedical assisted living administrator, licensed caregiver, cook, and direct care worker - welcomes women veterans into her family. Not into a program. Not into a facility. Into her home.

The Sisterhood is completely standalone and entirely separate from the Jackie's House reentry program. It exists for one reason: because women who served this country deserve to come home to safety, dignity, and someone who genuinely cares.

The Sisterhood opens November 1, 2026.

Three private rooms are available.

Room 1 - Wheelchair accessible first floor suite with a private en-suite bathroom and dedicated accessible parking. For a woman veteran who self-transfers.

Rooms 2 and 3 - Private bedroom for ambulatory women veterans.

All residents receive meals, medication reminders, daily living support, and the presence of a live-in caregiver available around the clock. LaRica provides all care personally.

WHO THE SISTERHOOD IS FOR

The Sisterhood is for women veterans who need a safe, private, supportive home environment with personal care without all of the restrictions a facility would have. This is your home. We have safety measures of course but you will treat it like it's your own home accept with 24/7 supportive care. Women veterans are encouraged to apply. Multiple payment options are available. Rates are well below comparable private residential care in Philadelphia. Contact us for current availability.

The Sisterhood is not a medical facility. It is a home - with all the warmth, care, and belonging that word is supposed to mean.
